Justyn Edwards: The Great Fox Heist (Walker Books 2023)
Justyn Edwards graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Archaeology. Since then he has worked as a caravan park attendant, paperboy and software engineer, but never as an archaeologist. He always wanted to be a writer and drew inspiration for his books from magic shows. He realized that a magician’s trick is defined by the story they tell their audience. A story can also be a magic trick because the author chooses when to reveal their secrets to the reader. This is how Justyn’s debut novel The Great Fox Illusion was born.
The Great Fox, the world-famous illusionist, has died. Now they are looking for his successor as part of a TV show. Flick Lions also gets the chance to enter the competition, but she also has a much more important reason then competiting: at the time, the Great Fox destroyed her family. Flick is now looking for the Biggest Trick to reunite her family.
It was a very exciting story. I’ve always loved magic tricks and it didn’t bother me if I couldn’t figure out how they did it. I also like it in books when there are unexpected twists and turns that I didn’t think of. And there is plenty of plot twists here. I was so captivated by the story that I immediately read the sequel.
Unfortunately, instead of answers, Flick only found more questions, and on behalf of the Great Fox, she and her friend Charlie have to participate in a competition, which also includes robbing a bank. But can they believe a man whose whole life revolves around deception?
This book was also very twisty and even more similar to the Now You See Me movie. Unfortunately, there are still loose ends left and the next part of the series will not arrive until next summer.
